Nearest Locations Panel Field

Last modified: September 14, 2026

The Nearest Locations Panel Field is a display-only container for the location chosen through a Nearest Locations Field. It gives the selected destination a dedicated place in the form while the Nearest Locations Field controls the search, template, automatic display, selection, and saved entry data.

Nearest Locations Panel Overview

Add this field when you want the currently selected destination to appear in a separate, predictable part of the form. It is especially useful when the map and Nearest Locations search controls appear earlier in the form, while a confirmation-style summary should appear near the next step or submit button.

How the Panel Works

  1. The Nearest Locations Field finds and displays eligible destinations.
  2. The visitor selects a destination from a marker or selection control.
  3. The Nearest Locations Field saves the selection and renders its configured output template inside the linked panel.
  4. When the selection is cleared or replaced, the panel updates to match.

The panel does not perform a search and it does not contain the saved location value. Those responsibilities remain with the linked Nearest Locations Field.

Panel and Output Settings

1. Panel Field Settings

The panel uses standard Gravity Forms display settings such as label, description, size, CSS class, visibility, and conditional logic. It has no location-source or template settings of its own.

Open the related Nearest Locations Field settings and select this panel in the Nearest Locations Panel dropdown.

3. Nearest Location Output Template

Define the panel's HTML in the Nearest Locations Field. Use placeholders that match destination properties, such as {title}, {address}, and {distance}.

4. Auto Display Nearest Location

Enable this in the Nearest Locations Field when the first eligible result should be displayed automatically. Leave it disabled when the visitor must explicitly select a destination.

Basic Setup

  1. Configure a Nearest Locations Field with an origin and destination source.
  2. Add the Nearest Locations Panel Field where the selected destination should appear.
  3. Return to the Nearest Locations Field and select the new panel under Output Display.
  4. Enter the Nearest Location Output Template.
  5. Choose whether the first nearest location should display automatically.
  6. Save the form and verify selection, replacement, and clearing behavior.

Important Behavior

  • The panel is populated dynamically on the front end and is shown in the form editor as a placeholder.
  • It submits no value, creates no entry data, and produces no merge-tag output.
  • The selected destination is stored by the Nearest Locations Field. Use that field's merge tag in confirmations, notifications, feeds, or exports.
  • One panel should be linked deliberately to the Nearest Locations Field whose selected result it should display.

Troubleshooting

  • The panel remains empty: Confirm that it is selected in the correct Nearest Locations Field and that a destination has actually been selected or auto-display is enabled.
  • The panel shows incomplete information: Check the output template and confirm that its placeholders match keys available in the destination records.
  • The panel is hidden: Review its Gravity Forms visibility and conditional-logic settings, plus any custom CSS applied to the field.
  • No entry value appears for the panel: This is expected. Review the saved value under the Nearest Locations Field instead.
